The curriculum is based on Reggio Emilia approach of teaching and learning. It promotes a learning programme and environment where children are listened to, respected, valued and feel a sense of belonging. See website:
The complementary approaches of our New Zealand early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki and that of Reggio Emilia form the foundation of our curriculum. At all times, the child's well-being and learning are central..
The Reggio Emilia approach is about empowering children to learn rather than filling their minds with knowledge that may or may not be useful in the future. Educators in Reggio Emilia believe that children are strong, powerful, confident and competent. Relationships are the cornerstone of this approach and collaboration between children, teachers and parents is of paramount importance.
